Review

Following on from last year’s remarkable ‘Tunnel of Light EP’ (Dessous 69), London housemaestros Two Armadillos, aka Giles Smith and Martin Dawson, return with two more super-addictive cuts, and a remix courtesy of Frankfurt’s Sascha Dive.’Hamlin’ leads us down a path so groovy, it’s hard to resist this dreamy tale from the very beginning. Steady pushing drums define the track’s mood; amounting to a tactful combination of classic deep house vibes flowing freely against solid and functional percussive elements. Drifting late night synths and childlike, ethereal chants osmose the mind of the listener, warming and arousing, spreading only positive energy on the dancefloor.Deep Vibes Recordings’ Sacha Dive takes Hamlin off on his own trip, elegantly stripping down the groove of the original and spacing things out even further. This mix is a pure and prolonged snapshot of the orignal’s travelling mood, building the groove in subtler steps, emphasised by Dive’s treatment of the chanting, spinning vocals and playful, live arrangement. Opening with the same finely strung groove as ‘Hamlin’, ‘Snowflakes’ introduces a beautiful and delicately dubbed melody amongst its bubbling rhythms. A harmonious, blissfull track which will no doubt come into its own as the summer rouses its sleepy head and outdoor merrymaking becomes top of the agenda! This EP cements Two Armadillos’ position amongst the very highest calibre of producers working today, presenting their fresh sonic ideas against a colourfully classic backdrop.

DES081 in the media

Adultnapper Audiomatique: “great release all around. prefer it to the first release by these guys. the production is warm and the track is quite beautiful. thanks.”

Agoria: “ this new two armadillos is perfect for the summer days”

Ben Watt (buzzin fly): “ beautiful deepness as ever”

Benno Blome: “ i like hamlin original version!”

D'julz: “amazing release, all mixes are great , will play. chart #3”

Dave DK: “ Nice laidback Groove on the new Armadillo 12", my favourite is B2 "Snowflakes", cool minimal electronic sounding track, lovely melodic theme coming up in the end. Sascha Dive is nice, too.”

Dennis Ferrer: “ Good”

DJ F.E.X.: “ nice one for summer sessions”

Dj Mag (UK): “Giles Smith and Martin Dawson's productions are getting more impressive, and this is the best thing they have done. The title track focuses on their trademark punchy drums, and features an excellent progression with evocative chords, a chant sample and flute lines gradually appearing. Meanwhile, the understated 'Snowflakes' goes in a different direction, serving up fragile electronic melodies. Indeed, the only weak link is Sascha Dive's superfluous dub version. Richard Brophy”

Ian Pooley: “ very nice!!”

James Flavour / Dirt Crew: “ Excellent mixes! The summer can come....”

Jamie Jones (Crosstown Rebels_: “Nice and deep, will play for sure.”

Laurent Garnier (F-Com): “yes yes yeeessss the a side is lovelyyyyy”

Magda: “Good!”

Martin Eyerer: “Dj Chart #4”

nitestylez.de: “ Giles Smith and Martin Dawson a.k.a. Two Armadillos are back with their second release on Dessous Recordings and provide quality again. "Hamlin" is exactly that kind of dubby, partly Basic Channel-influenced DeepHouse one loves on the dancefloor for its basic approach and reduced attitude – no additional chords, strings and melodies needed here, just beats, bass and pleasure plus a few organic sounds flickering through, creating a huge late night athmosphere that’ll be well appreciated by loads of punters and DJ’s the same. Sascha Dive delivers his so-called Secret Dub version on the flip and stays quite close to the original vibe here although his re-work seem to be stripped down even more, whilst „Snowflakes“ on B2 works on a similar, but more uptempo level as „Hamlin“ does and will find its way into cases of minimal jocks as well.”

Raresh: “nice and warm record for the summer time :) all tracks are brilliant ”

Sander Kleinenberg: “nice!”

Sebo K (Mobilee): “ very nice. will play for sure.”

Shinedoe (Intacto): “nice deep warm up tracks. thx s”

Steve Bug: “Dj Charts #4”

Tobi Neumann (Cocoon): “the sasha dive mix is super fat, i love it and play it a lot! ”

Will Saul (Simple Records): “ The best yet from the boys in my opinion. The melody in Snowflakes in delightful and the grooves on both tracks are spot on. Really like what Sascha Dive has done with his mix as well - overall a great EP”
