“Where” marks Tejada’s eleventh full-length release. In it he ventures away from many of his own trademarks and journeys into an intimate vibe of warm pulses and bright energies. The tracks take expectations and enlighten them with a collection of grooves and tweaks that are spacious and rhythmic while being devoid of predictability. The fifth track, “Desire,” features a first time collaboration with Nicolette who, having notoriety for her early 90’s hit “No Government” as well as previous work with Massive Attack and Plaid, lends her vocal talents to a sonic gem that is magic in itself. A musical collaboration with Tejada was imminent once Nicolette moved to Los Angeles and was introduced to him by a mutual friend. “Where” is not a typical cerebral approach to electronic music. Rather, it is “soul-ebral” in its ubiquity, giving the listener a rare vision of a melodic spin wherein Tejada can be seen in his studio creating life breathing through synths. John Tejada on “Where” : This album came out of experimentation and starting fresh without knowingly making a new album. After a few ideas came together and songs were recorded, the realization set in that I was on my way towards a new full length. The place these tracks came from within me is hard to put into words. But as the collection of songs started to grow a bigger picture came into focus. Where is a moment in time, a place, a realization.

Das muss immer so sein. 10 Tracks, digital, trocken, voller Minimalismus der noch nach den Sternen sucht, dann aber auch wieder mit eleganten Popmomenten, und trotzdem ist das alles wie aus einem Guß. Ein Album bei dem man an silbrige Streifen denkt, an einen Nachthimmel in Blau, egal ob man das Blau nicht mehr sehen kann, an Robert Hood und an die Welt in der immer irgendwo eine Sonne aufgeht, weil es einfach zuviele davon gibt. Wenn es diesen Monat ein Clubalbum gibt, dass wirklich vom ersten Moment an nicht nur funktioniert, sondern eine ganz eigene Vorstellung vom Club hat, dann ist das definitiv "Where". bleed”

Groove Mag (GER): “Kaum zu glauben: John Tejada hat schon zehn Alben auf dem Konto. Sein elftes ist gleichzeitig die 50. Katalognummer für Palette und der Beweis, dass Tejada immer noch nach der eigenen Pfeife tanzt. Sein molliger Entwurf minimaler Housemusik hat nichts an Basslastigkeit oder relativer Wärme eingebüßt. Während viele geistesverwandte Labeladressen unter Gefrierbrand leiden, ist davon bei Tejada nichts zu sehen. Er setzt lieber dezente und methodische Musikalität gegen die Kälte. Das funktioniert wie so oft dann am besten, wenn es wie nachlässig hingetupft wirkt. Und solche Stellen gibt es auf Where viele. Eher ungewöhnlich für den Analytiker Tejada ist jedoch die Zusammenarbeit mit Nicolette. Nostalgikern ein Begriff (man denke an Shut Up And Dance), verwendet „Desire“jenes Material, das auch Carl Craig gerne für seine Hingucker nimmt. Subtilität bleibt dennoch stets Trumpf in Los Angeles. Knackiges DJ-Album. GJ”
